![]() Tessellations are all about the celebration of geometry – more importantly geometry that repeats (or tiles) – most of the “Advent” folds are a single “molecule” that can be repeated in vast quantities on much bigger fields – working out how to repeat them and the required layer management is an art and a science. It never ceases to fascinate me as to what you can encourage a flat sheet of paper to do, and just how far you can push it. ![]() I now have another 25 tessellations to add to my growing collection of surface deformations and treatment folios – all useful techniques to incorporate in other things. 21-25 (front/back/backlit): OT linked flowers, tight flowers, sunflowers, vortex, just rhombi star Layers and layer order greatly enhance the shadow play of these folds. I learned a LOT about tessellations, including how beautiful some of them are when back-lit – and oddly how different the front and back is in terms of the back-lit pattern. It is AMAZING to me that I managed to achieve all the folds on the first try – although there were some seriously hairy moments when I was completely lost and had to “unwind” my progress back to an earlier state before advancing again. 16-20 (front/back/backlit): Open suns, open triangle wheels, CT stars gapped, CT linked flowers, OT stars gapped At first they look easy, then you realise there are elements UNDER other elements, others that WRAP others. Layer management was then tackled – easy vs hard collapse sequences and then the hardest stuff of all – stacked geometry. “Open” rhombus twists did my head in – the “anvil” shaped setup for the narrow diagonal kept getting lost in the pleats and many of them I ended up “freestyling” then tidying up using the resting geometry when everything was flat again. “closed rhombus twists require a “diamond” to define the narrow diagonal and paper tension to collapse the long points – it took me ages to get them right (and neat). ![]() Rhombus twists continued to mess with my head. 11-15 (front/back/backlit): Fairy rings, convergence, lens stars, open lens stars, open saws We then progressed to closed hexagon twists (again, something I had done lots of beforehand) and refined them into “open” hexagon twists – a fascinating variation of a “star puff” of which I had passing familiarity. 6-10 (front/back/backlit): Triangle double-bar wells, shrinking violet, studded wheels, radiant, dancing ribbons We later progressed to “open” triangle twists, which are much harder, and require a “setup” that uses paper tension to define the lines off-grid that were the sides of the triangle. The folds started with closed triangle twists (something I had done a lot of previously, so found accurate placement of these fairly easy. This approach came awry pretty quickly as the elements began to argue for the same real estate on the sheet and I learned that sequential development was way more sustainable. The first few were easy, and collapsed simply, but then I decided I did not need the tutorials and proceeded to mark up the paper with the day’s CP and collapse from that. 1-5 (front/back/backlit): Cluster 6, cluster 4, cluster 6 alternating, cluster 4 alternating, HT6 closed alternating The idea was that Madonna released a CP and a video tutorial each day for 25 days, victims start with hexagons of paper pre-creased into 16-grid triangles, and collapse increasingly difficult combinations of tessellation techniques on the page. ![]() I guess I am supposed to know about Advent, having worked in a Catholic boys school for 33 years, but… apparently it is the 25 days in December leading up to Xmas (learn something every day) It was late in the semester, I was looking for a folding project (to add to the other 4 already on my board – procrastigami strikes again) and noticed in my feeds a 25-day program by Madonna Yoder called “Advent of Tess”.

Q: Should I purchase a push cart with 3 wheels or 4 wheels?Ī: Models with 3 wheels tend to be easier to maneuver. Why should I use a push cart instead of carrying? When you find yourself on a hillside, more often than not, aligning your cart perpendicular with the slope can safely eliminate the need to engage the brakes. If you're on relatively flat terrain, don't bother with the brakes. While in most cases, new cables are inexpensive and easy to replace, the best way to increase the lifespan of your cart's brakes is to use them only when absolutely necessary. If durability is your primary concern, none is built better than Clicgear.Įventually, the brake system on nearly every push cart is going to fail. Flat and lush courses won’t inflict nearly the same punishment as hilly courses with sandy soil. It’s important to consider the impact course conditions have on the cart. All golfers are different, so look for a push carts with adjustable handles to help ensure you can maneuver it comfortably. If you are a golfer who likes to accessorize your push cart ( pimp your ride, so to speak), consider a brand like Clicgear which has nearly every type of push cart accessory imaginable.Push carts with a 360-degree rotation wheel make turning on a dime easy and effortless.Take his word for it and join the movement. Wolkodoff suggests you can save an average of 2.5 shots over 9 holes when you push instead of carrying. Using a push cart can help you shoot lower scores.Every aspect of the design exceeds the expectations for its compact size. With its 3-wheel design and multi-point attachment system, the Big Max Blade IP also ensures your bag will remain upright without twisting when trekking up the side hills. The biggest selling point of the ironically named Big Max is its ability to collapse to the size of a backpack. Others are bulkier and require more trunk and storage space.Īre you looking for a pushcart that can be stowed almost anywhere? The Big Max Blade IP is a pushcart contortionist. For those looking for maximum space savings, a folded Big Max is compact enough to fit in the footwell behind the driver’s seat. A push cart needs to fit into your car and ideally not take up too much space in your garage or wherever else it’s stored. Some carts can be folded down to smaller sizes than others. Some brands like Bag Boy have a clip-in system for stand bags that, along with velcro straps, help lock the back in place for added stability. Regardless of whether you use a stand or cart bag, you want it to remain upright in a fixed position. How does the push cart handle uneven and challenging terrain? Some carts tip over easily when on a side hill, while those with wider bases and good weight distribution are far less likely to tip over. Four-wheel carts are less maneuverable still, and often require the golfer to lift the front wheels off the ground to complete turns. Carts that have fixed wheels can be harder to maneuver when zigzagging across the fairway or in some cases through the rough. Carts that offer 360-degree front-wheel rotation provide the best maneuverability. Ultimately, you don’t want a push cart to slow you down, that’s not the point. FEATURES THAT MATTER TO YOU Maneuverability The metrics we consider when rating travel bags include Durability, Folded Size, Maneuverability, Features, and Stability. ![]() Push Carts are tested head to head using rigorous protocols. Whether you’re looking to buy a new push cart today, looking for some buying advice, or just want a closer look at what’s on the market right now, this guide will help you find the right cart to fit your needs. We put the top push carts on the market to the test to ensure you have the best information available when it comes time to buy. With all those options, finding the right push cart to fit your needs can be a bit overwhelming. Sure, there are people out there that don’t like seeing push carts in competition, but the stigma is waning, and that’s a good thing. Hell, despite the near-incessant criticism from the back in my day crowd telling us how real men used to do it, the best college golfers are using push carts…and winning. ![]() More and more young golfers are using push carts. If you can use a push cart and keep one more stress away from the back that’s a great thing.”Ĭonvinced? Probably not, but here is some more evidence to change your mind. ![]() The golf swing is tough on the back no matter how you look at it. Neil Wolkodoff, Medical Director of the Colorado Center for Health and Sports Science, “People who push a cart have a lot fewer issues and a lot less potential for issues. Push carts give you the exercise benefits of walking, without the wear and tear of carrying. Why does America lag behind Europe when it comes to widespread adoption of the push cart? Whatever the reason, the fact of the matter is that golfers would benefit from their use. Then the duplicate strands of DNA move to opposite sides of the cell. First the DNA replicates and the cell grows to twice its normal size. Simple organisms such as bacteria undergo a type of cell division called binary fission. The splitting of the cells is called cytokinesis or cell cleavage. The two new cells, or daughter cells, are formed. These phases occur in strict sequential order, and cytokinesis - the process of dividing the cell contents to make two new cells - starts. Some textbooks list five, breaking prophase into an early phase (called prophase) and a late phase (called prometaphase). The cell walls then pinch off and split down the middle. To duplicate the T-Birds 3,957 lb (1,795 kg) normal production weight, body panels were made of Type 302 stainless steel, and trim pieces out of Type 430 stainless steel. This was not a problem for Ford, as the next generation of T-Bird used a new body style. Because of the properties of stainless steel, the production dies would be destroyed as a result of the stamping of the parts. A rare option in this year was a sunroof this "Golde Edition" (Golde was a German company whose sunroof patent Ford licensed) sold 2,530 examples.Īt the end of 1960, two Thunderbirds were constructed of stainless steel for the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation to showcase the decorative use of stainless steel, at a price of US$35,000 each ($346,220 in 2022 dollars ). With more trim changes, most notably the addition of a third tail light in the rear clusters, 1960's sales figures hit another record: 92,843 units sold, including 11,860 convertibles. Drum brakes were used at all four wheels.ġ960 1960 Ford Thunderbird hardtop Rear view showing the six tail lights added for the 1960 model year This was changed to a more conventional leaf spring suspension in the 1959 model year. The rear was initially a live axle suspended by trailing arms and coil springs, which were intended to be interchangeable with optional air springs that were canceled before production. Front suspension was independent, with coil springs and unequal-length A-arms. The remainder of the engineering was conventional, with Ford's new 300-hp 352 cu in (5.8 L) FE-series V8 coupled to a three-speed manual transmission, with overdrive or Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission optional. Ford incorporated the higher drivetrain tunnel that was required in a lower car into a center console dividing both front and rear seats which featured ashtrays, switches, and minor controls. The 1958 Thunderbird was only 52.5 inches tall, nearly 9 inches shorter than an average American sedan the Thunderbird had only 5.8 inches of ground clearance. ![]() The intent was to allow the maximum interior space in a relatively small exterior package. The four-seat Thunderbird was designed with unibody construction, eschewing a separate chassis shared with the all-new Lincoln built at the all new factory in Wixom, Michigan. However, the losing proposal, styled by Elwood Engel, would gain its own place in Ford Motor Company history: after minor revisions, it would become the 1961 Lincoln Continental. The design was one of two proposals, styled primarily by Joe Oros, who later worked on the 1964 Ford Mustang. The design was driven entirely by the styling department and approved before the engineering was considered. The new Thunderbird had a distinct new styling theme. Mercury also saw the introduction of a flagship hardtop coupe with a similar approach to luxury called the Mercury Turnpike Cruiser with a longer wheelbase and two inches more for width dimensions, then updated to the 1958 Mercury Park Lane. The listed retail price was US$3,408 for the base price ($35,509 in 2022 dollars ). ![]() ![]() As a response, Ford executives decided to add a rear seat to the Thunderbird. The Studebaker Speedster and the Chrysler 300C shared many appearances with the Thunderbird, while offering a rear seat. Market research suggested sales of the Thunderbird were limited by its two-seat configuration, making it unsuitable for families. Īlong with the 1958 Lincolns, the 1958 Thunderbird was the first Ford Motor Company vehicle designed with unibody construction.Īlthough the 1955-1957 Ford Thunderbird had proved successful (in comparison to the Chevrolet Corvette), Ford executives-particularly Robert McNamara-still felt its overall sales volume had room to improve. Sales totalled 198,191 over three model years, approximately four times that of the earlier two seat model. In response to Ford-conducted surveys two major changes were made to attract potential buyers: two rear seats were added and the level of luxury and features of a full-sized car were incorporated into a mid-size platform.Īs a result, sales soared and the new model dramatically expanded the personal luxury car market, winning the Motor Trend Car of the Year in 1958. The second generation Ford Thunderbird (also called Square Bird ) was produced by Ford for the 1958 to 1960 model years as a successor to the popular 1955–1957 two-seater. |
